4D Audio Services
We offer audio engineering services with all of our bookings. We also offer freelance engineering at 3rd party facilities (such as Teaneck Sound Studios pictured above). Our engineering philosophy is to provide a relaxed, efficient, professional atmosphere, that fosters creativity.
Our sound studio is built within our home. It has a warm and inviting charm, and houses some very high-quality sound equipment (Click for Gear List). We arrange the studio, test and setup equipment before you arrive. Then we start together by creating the software session, and running a sound check. We can record / create for the remainder of the session, up until the final 15-20 minutes. In this remaining time, we will create a rough mix and ‘print’ the audio file(s) for you to take home.
Our live room is approx 15’ x 11’ and can accommodate 4-5 musicians. Our control room is approx 15’x10’, provides acoustic isolation (room-inside-a-room), and can accommodate an additional 1-2 musicians during recording sessions. For more info on the studio, please scroll below to ‘The Studio’ section.
Mixing usually occurs after the recording process is finished. A good mix will bring out certain details and expand the sense of space between your speakers. When building mixes, we focus on the emotional impact of the performance. Carefully and thoughtfully, through a series of processes, we make decisions to improve upon mix placement, clarity, and feeling.
Mastering occurs after the mixing process is finished. A good master preserves important mix dynamics, while ensuring the recording is ‘commercially competitive’ against other relevant content. When building a master, we focus on the emotive flow, how it takes us from start to finish, and how each section impacts the one before and after. We then address the sonic qualities that glue the edges of the mix together, and make the final master sound like a completed work.
Depending on the recording, we can usually edit and/or tune audio to clean up performance issues and/or create performance changes.
We offer the studio as a rehearsal space on a case-by-case basis. No recording nor engineering is included, but backline can be provided. If you are interested in scheduling rehearsal time, please Contact Us.
